About PIER Search
PIER Search
Welcome to the online Product Import and Export Requirements tool, known as PIER Search.
PIER Search provides information about products you want to import to New Zealand and the phytosanitary measures you need to meet to manage biosecurity risk.
For exports we have summarised our trading partners’ phytosanitary measures you need to meet before you go ahead and ship New Zealand products.
Imports
New Zealand is an island country and, as such, enjoys the benefits of an effective, natural quarantine barrier. New Zealand, as a trading nation, imports a wide range of products from all parts of the world, which poses a continual threat to its plant and animal health status. An integrated biosecurity system, ranging from offshore measures to exotic pest response, has been developed to manage these risks.
PIER Search allows you to search for products we have assessed as posing a biosecurity risk. For each product, we summarise the phytosanitary measures you need to meet and provide links to other key information, such as the legal requirements under an import health standard, any permits or declarations you need to complete and any guidance we have developed.

Exports
New Zealand’s economy is largely dependent on exports of agricultural, horticultural and forestry products. The absence of many serious pests and diseases and the establishment of an integrated biosecurity system provide a competitive advantage for access into many markets.
PIER Search allows you to search for products that New Zealand can export to our trading partners. We have summarised their phytosanitary requirements, and provide links to information on the MPI website and to any official documentation they have published.
